Monash Waves the Green and Gold in Sweden

Monash University to Represent Australia at the 2026 FISU World University Cheerleading Championships

GOTHENBURG, SWEDEN— Monash University Cheer and Dance will proudly represent Australia at the 2026 FISU World University Cheerleading Championships, to be held in Gothenburg, Sweden.

Led by coach Steph Davey, the team will take to the international stage as Team Australia, competing against some of the world's best university cheerleading programs.

While confirmation came later than expected, the team has wasted no time getting to work. By onloading additional training sessions and maintaining a clear focus on their key objectives, Monash, competing as Team Australia, is aiming to peak when it matters most in Sweden.

The team arrives at the 2026 championship on the verge of achieving the hard earned "hit zero" performance, with athletes and coaches hopeful of delivering a deduction-free routine on the world stage.

The championship will bring together 16 nations from six continents, including Australia, Brazil, Canada, China, Chinese Taipei, Colombia, Greece, Hungary, Japan, Malaysia, Mali, Poland, Slovenia, Sweden, the United States, and Bulgaria.

According to event organisers, the 2026 championship is being delivered by the Swedish University Sports Federation (SAIF) and the Swedish Cheerleading Federation (SCF), in collaboration with Göteborg & Co. The event follows the successful 2024 FISU World University Cheerleading Championships held in Split, Croatia.

The championship arrives at a pivotal moment for the global cheerleading community. International attention remains focused on the sport's continued growth and its aspirations for inclusion in the Brisbane 2032 Olympic Games. The event also follows the announcement that performance cheerleading will return to the FISU World University Games program in 2029, marking another significant milestone in the sport's international development.

As the athletes prepare to wear the green and gold on the world stage, they carry with them not only the pride of Monash University, but also the hopes of Australia's growing cheerleading community.

We wish the athletes, coaches, and support staff of Monash University Cheer and Dance every success as they represent Australia in Gothenburg.
